Welcome and Thanks for a Job Well Done!
As we begin the New Year we trust that 2007 will be productive and profitable for our members. At this time of the year the terms of many of our Board members end and new members are added. On behalf of the Better Business Bureau serving Greater Iowa, Quad Cities and the Siouxland Region we give a heartfelt thank you to those Board participants who are leaving and a warm welcome to those commencing Bureau service. Our sincere appreciation is extended to outgoing Board chair, David Sinwell of Dahl's Foods and the many other departing individual Board members who have made significant contributions over the past several years. Thank you for your time and tireless efforts.

Scam Alert: LOL
In the vernacular of our e-communication and instant messaging culture, this made us laugh out loud. We were forwarded this scam and while the writer probably did not intend for it to sound comical it did elicit lots of chuckles when passed around the office. Given the fact that the entire communiqué is undoubtedly a scam, it is still interesting to note that presumably the term re-profile funds as it is used here would bear a similarity to the more commonly used term, "money laundering".

This new scam is called "vishing" -- short for "voice phishing."

BBB Offers New Year's Resolution
"Whatever your personal goals are for the New Year, the Better Business Bureau encourages you to be alert to scam artists. They will try to tap into people's desire to improve their lives in the coming months. BBBs anticipate an increase in advertisements for bogus loans, work-at-home promotions, 'miracle' weight loss schemes, false lottery notices and other tempting offers," said Steve Cole, President and CEO of the Council of Better Business Bureaus.
